Hire College Students to Help Move Your Dorm
CampusKit lets you hire students on your own campus to help with dorm move-in, move-out, furniture hauling and storage runs. Post a moving task with the date and what needs to move, set your budget, and pick a helper from the students who respond.
Moving jobs students can help with
Moving & Hauling is one of the task categories on CampusKit. A few common ones:
Dorm move-in
Carry boxes, bins and furniture from the car or curb to your room, then help with lofting, assembly and setup.
Dorm move-out
Pack up, carry everything out and load it before the residence hall deadline, so you are not doing it alone during finals.
Dorm to apartment
Moving off campus? Get extra hands to load, haul and unload between your residence hall and your new place.
Storage runs
Get help taking things to a storage unit over the summer and bringing them back in the fall.
Furniture pickup and assembly
Pick up a used couch, desk or shelf, carry it up the stairs and put it together.
Room switches
Changing rooms mid-semester? Move everything across the hall or across campus in one trip.
How to hire a student to help you move
Post your moving task
Say what is moving, where from and where to, the date and time, how many helpers you need, and whether you have a vehicle.
Set your budget
You choose what to offer, so you can compare responses before you pick anyone.
Pick a student
Every account requires a .edu email. Check each helper's profile and skills.
What affects the price of a dorm move
There is no fixed rate. You set the budget when you post. These are the things that make a move bigger or smaller, so include them in your task to get accurate responses.
How many helpers
A few boxes may need one person. A full room with a mattress, desk and fridge usually goes faster with two.
How long it takes
The amount of stuff, the number of trips and the wait for elevators on move-in day all add time.
Stairs and distance
A fourth-floor walk-up or a long carry from the parking lot is more work than a ground-floor room by the curb.
Who brings the vehicle
Say whether you have a car or truck. If you need a helper who can drive and haul, say so in the task.
Heavy or awkward items
Couches, bed frames, mini fridges and anything that needs taking apart or assembling should be listed up front.
Timing
Peak move-in and move-out weekends are busy. Posting early and being flexible on the time slot helps.
Why hire a student instead of a moving company
A dorm move is usually a small job: one room, a few trips, a set move-in window. Students on your campus already know the residence halls, the parking rules and where the elevators are.
On CampusKit every account requires a .edu email. Read more about how we keep you safe.

Dorm moving help FAQ
Can I hire college students to help me move into my dorm?
Yes. Post a moving task on CampusKit with the date, what needs to move and how many people you need. Students on your campus can respond, and you pick who helps.
How much does it cost to hire a student for a dorm move?
You set the budget when you post the task. The price depends on how many helpers you need, how long the move takes, stairs and distance, and whether a vehicle is needed.
How do I know the movers are real students?
Every CampusKit account requires a .edu email address.
Do student helpers bring a truck?
Some do and some do not. Say in your task whether you have a vehicle or need a helper who can bring one.
Can students help with move-out and summer storage too?
Yes. Post a task for move-out, a storage run, a dorm to apartment move or a room switch, the same way you would for move-in.
Moving soon? Get help from a student.
Post your moving task in a few minutes and see who on your campus can help.
